NCHTA
Charter
The National Capital Horse Trials Association (NCHTA) was formed in 1981 by a group of enthusiastic equestrians with the aim of making the sport of Eventing accessible to local riders in Canberra and the surrounding districts. Since this time, the membership of the association has grown and its activities have broadened in scope, and the construction of high quality cross country facilities has enabled the organising of high level competitions, attracting some of Australia’s best eventers, up to Olympic standard.
The NCHTA aims to promote the sport of Eventing within the structure of the Equestrian Federation of Australia rules and guidelines. It aims to promote the organization of safe, high quality Horse Trials competitions, and to support its members in training and competing at all levels of the sport.
Training days, clinics and low level competitions are held regularly, catering for riders from beginner to higher levels. Riders who gain the talents and skills to enable them to participate in competition at elite levels of the sport are encouraged and assisted with higher level clinics and competitions, enabling them to test their skills against the best of Australian riders. Annual awards are given to our most successfully competing members.
As the sport of Eventing involves the three disciplines of Dressage, Showjumping and Cross Country Trialling, training activities are organised to promote these skills, and many members compete successfully in competitions held by fellow dressage and showjumping clubs.
Today's NCHTA members represent a wide range of participants, with many junior and senior riders, from those who ride for the enjoyment of the sport, to those with a keen competitive edge who will progress to competition at elite levels.
There are now two centres about which activities are organised; Equestrian Park in Canberra and at ‘Lynton’ in Goulburn. NCHTA manages the cross country course and ongoing course building and is producing exciting new courses. At present two competitions to international standards are held annually at both venues, as well as other local events.
As a member of the NCHTA you will benefit from the opportunities to:
